Congress blames BJP for delay
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: The Congress on Thursday blamed the Bhartiya Janata Party for the delay in bringing the Women’s Reservation Bill to Parliament but expressed the hope that a political consensus would emerge during the coming budget session.
Reacting to the BJP rally here to press the demand for the Bill, AICC Media Committee chairman M. Veerappa Moily said Congress president Sonia Gandhi was taking steps to evolve a political consensus on the Bill that calls for 33 per cent reservation for women in State Assemblies and Parliament.
While reiterating his party’s commitment to the Bill, Mr. Moily expressed the hope that the Bill would see the “light of the day” in this Parliament session.
He said it was the BJP which was not interested in the Bill. “They have no social commitment, only political commitment.”
