CUTTACK: Both print and electronic media are growing rapidly in India and have crucial roles to play to safeguard the Constitutional privileges of the people , opined BJD Rajya Sabha member Baijayant Panda, who started his career in print media in US and now is closely associated with a local electronic media . He addressed the students of journalism at Ravenshaw University here on Thursday. Joining as guest of honour at the annual function of the Journalism Department of the university, Panda and Sampad Mohapatra of NDTV spoke at length on the topic; “Role of media in safeguarding the Constitutional privileges of the citizens”. Panda however, suggested that media needs a fair amount of self-introspection and self-regulation to serve the masses in a better way. On the primacy of print and electronic media, the MP says, “Both have legitimate place in the society”. Mohapatra, who worked in in print and electronic media, urged the students to be fair and enjoy the profession. The meeting was presided over by Registrar Dr. Satyakam Mishra and the department head Benudhar Panda was present.
