BELLARY: Members of the Bellary District Railway Action Committee, after meeting several Union Ministers, All-India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi and the Chairman of the Railway Board in New Delhi, are hopeful of better railway infrastructure in the Bellary-Hospet region. “We had taken a delegation of people from the region and met all Ministers concerned, including Minister of State for Railways R. Velu, Ms. Sonia Gandhi and Railway officials. Their attention was drawn to the lack of railway infrastructure in the region, which has contributed handsome freight revenue to the Ministry by way of transportation of iron ore and industrial products manufactured in the district. ConvincedWe believe that all of them are convinced about our demands and have promised to take up the matter with Railway Minister Lalu Prasad,” said Maheshwaraswamy, president of the committee. Speaking to presspersons here on Friday, he said the delegation had also staged a dharna and demonstration in New Delhi to impress upon those in power the need for better railway infrastructure. He said the committee had demanded that the Hampi Express (Hubli-Bangalore) be run as a full-fledged train with 22 bogies, introduction of a new train between Hospet and Mysore, another towards Mangalore through Bellary to link the East and West coasts and introduction of push-pull trains between Guntakal and Hubli and Raichur and Bellary.
