Puducherry
PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Friday demanded the resignation of Health Minister E.Valsaraj following an allegation against him in a land deal in Mahe. In a statement here, Puducherry CPI (M) secretary V. Perumal said the Minister should own moral responsibility and quit office to pave the way for a free and fair probe. ‘Dismiss him’If the Minister did not come forward to resign, the Chief Minister should dismiss him, Mr. Perumal said. He also flayed Mr. Valsaraj for accusing the CPI (M) of attempting to cast aspersions on him. Cases filedThe Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department on Thursday registered a case against Mr. Valsaraj and nine other members of the governing body of Mahe Co-operative Centre for Information Technology Limited on several charges for allegedly committing financial irregularity. Sources in the department said that a case had been filed under Sections 403 (misappropriation of property), 408 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 120 (b) (criminal conspiracy) of Indian Penal code and Section 7 and 9 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
