Special Correspondent

YERCAUD: The increasing vulnerability of Yercaud tribal population in Shevaroyan Hills to blood pressure and sexually transmitted infections (STI) has once again come to the fore with more number of affected tribal people who were screened for various ailments in a medical camp here recently.

A report by the Shervarayon Hills Community Development Project had stated that of the 114 screened at the camp held at Kolahur where many tribals from nearby hamlets attended it, 14 were suffering from blood pressure while 12 others were identified to have the STI. A lone TB case was also reported.

Dr. Kalpana from Nagalur PHC and a team of para-medical staff screened the patients. Five women who were found to be anemic were given treatment. The camp was organised to provide low-cost alternative medicine to tribals living around the villages of Kolohur, Mel Kolohur, Thalurkadu, and Puliyamarathur in the hills.
