Petition by city clubs

BANGALORE: Several clubs in Bangalore, including the Bangalore Golf Club, Hennur-Banaswadi Cosmopolitan Club and others have petitioned the Karnataka High Court against the proposed levy of luxury tax on them.

In their petitions, the clubs said the State Government had amended an Act some years ago to include levy of luxury tax on clubs for the services they provide to its members.

The Bangalore Golf Club said the Department of Commercial Tax had served notices on it, asking it to pay Rs. 600 a member annually as luxury tax. Justice N.K. Patil adjourned further hearing on the case. — Staff Reporter
