Chhattisgarh posts 9.41 p.c. GDP growth

NEW DELHI: The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Chhattisgarh for 2006-07 is estimated at Rs 59,321 crore and at constant price it has recorded a growth of 9.41 per cent over 2005-06 which is comparable with the all India growth of 9.6 per cent.

According to the Economic Survey for the year 2007-08, tabled in the State Assembly by the Chief Minister Raman Singh on Friday, the primary sector which includes agriculture, forestry, and mining had grown at 6.32 per cent, with agricultural sector registering a growth of 4.29 per cent. The GDP growth rate in the manufacturing and services sector the same period is estimated at 8.05 per cent and 10.93 per cent respectively.

Per capita income for 2006-07 is estimated at Rs 22,605 which is 15.6 per cent higher than 2005-06.

For 2007-08, the growth in Gross Domestic Product has been projected at 7.51 per cent and per capita income at Rs 25,415 which is 12.43 per cent higher than 2006-07.

During the 10th Five Year Plan period (2002-07), as against the growth target of 6.10 per cent in GDP, the achievement has been 8.68 per cent, with agricultural sector registering 6.26 per cent growth which is more than double as compared to the target of 3 per cent.

Similarly, for the secondary sector including industry and manufacturing, there has been a sharp increase in the growth rate which is 14.7 per cent as compared to the target of 7.5 per cent. Services sector has recorded a growth of 7.78 per cent as against the targeted 7.5 per cent.
