Bihar
Stormy beginning: Opposition members demonstrating in the Assembly on the opening day of the budget session in Patna on Friday PATNA: Opposition parties on Friday disrupted Governor R.S.Gavai’s address to the joint session of the Bihar Legislature protesting the failure of the State Government on all fronts, including protecting migrant Biharis in Maharashtra. The Opposition benches welcomed the Governor on his arrival but as soon as he started to read out from the prepared speech, members of the RJD and CPI(ML) read out a parallel speech charging that the government sponsored draft was a bundle of lies and that they were duty-bound to lay down the facts. Other Opposition members rose in unison once the Governor sought to claim that the Nitish Kumar-led NDA Government had performed well. They demanded the resignation of the Chief Minister charging that his government had relied on batons and bullets to put down voices of resentment and genuine demands of people in distress. The law and order was equally bad with the police running amok every now and then, they alleged and pointed out that innocent people were dragged out of their homes and killed in Kahalgaon for restoration of power supply. The government lacked administrative firmness in booking officials responsible for the killings. They charged that the government’s policies were against the people. It had not shown any success on the development front with no investment worth mentioning. Money was being squandered on execution of substandard schemes. The government was condemned for failing to protect the lives of the sons of the soil eking out a living in other States as in Maharashtra exposing its promise of putting an end to exodus of labour. The Governor’s speech contained no reference to the problems confronting Bihari migrants.
