This Day That Age
The President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, in a message on the death of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Union Minister for Education and Scientific Research, on February 22, described him as “a great leader” and said: “He has died full of glory leaving millions to mourn his loss.” The message said, “By the passing away of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India loses a profound scholar, a great orator, an elder statesman, a consistent and persistent nationalist, an untiring fighter in the cause of freedom and above all, a great leader whose wise counsel and indomitable courage were always availed of to solve many an intricate problem. The whole country mourns his loss. For those who have had the privilege to work and serve under and with him and for the country at large, the loss is irreparable. We have been too near him to be able to give expression to our innermost feelings to-day. He has died in harness, working till the last moment for the country he loved and suffered for.”
