dated February 23, 1958: S. Indian languages

The University Grants Commission at its last meeting in December felt that instead of faculties, departments for the study of one or two South Indian languages might be set up in North Indian universities, the Minister of State for Education, Dr. K.L. Shrimali said in the Lok Sabha on February 21. The Minister said that the Commission felt that North Indian universities might provide either a diploma or a certificate course in the South Indian languages, or allow these languages to be taken as optional subjects in the normal Arts or general education course.
