Congress retains ward 1 of Rajapalayam Municipality

AIADMK candidate gets 175 votes

VIRUDHUNAGAR: Veteran Congress leader, A.A. Subbaraja, has retained ward 1 of Rajapalayam Municipality in the by-election.

He routed his All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate, K.C. Sahadevaraja. Mr. Subbaraja got 1,058 out of 1,233 votes polled.

The AIADMK candidate, who polled just 175 votes, lost his deposit. The Congress won the by-poll to ward 4 of Narikudi Panchayat Union with the victory of its candidate, K. Nagarani. Counting of votes for by-elections held to other local body seats was held on Friday.

R. Santhakumari won the election held to fill up the post of president of Ramanujapuram panchayat.
