Chief Minister offers prayers at jatara

MEDARAM (WARANGAL DT.): Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy visited the Sammakka Sarakka jatara on Friday and offered prayers at the altar.
Later, he addressed the devotees gathered in front of the altar premises for about five minutes. Wishing them the best, the Chief Minister said the State Government would sanction Rs 1.5 crore for the proposed additional queue complex and other works.
Brief visit
The brief visit of the Chief Minister caused undue hardship to the pilgrims waiting in the queues, especially the women. Police stopped all those waiting in the queues much ahead of the arrival of Chief Minister and woman carrying infants were made to wait for long hours.
Since morning on Friday, the jatara witnessed the visit of several VIPs and every time the pilgrims were made to wait until the VIPs had darshan. Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Tribal Welfare Minister D. S. Redya Naik, Endowments Minister J. S. Ratnakar Rao, Warangal mayor E Swarna, Zilla Parishad chairperson L Dhanvanthi, MLAs, MLCs and several Congress leaders arrived here for the Chief Minister’s visit.
The Chief Minister arrived at 4.30 p.m. and spent about one hour time at this village. He offered jaggery of his weight to the deities Sammakka and Sarakka.
Lok Satta leader N Jayaprakash Narayan and district president Parcha Kodanda Rama Rao visited the jatara and offered prayers and jaggery to the deities.
