Jayaprada theatre complex attached

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Jayaprada theatre complex on General Patters Road, owned by actor and Samajwadi Party MP Jayaprada, was attached by Chennai Corporation on Friday for non-payment of property tax to the tune of Rs. 20 lakh.

An official of the Corporation said that based on directions of a city civil court, a team of the officials from the civic body pasted a warrant notice about the tax dues on the doors of the complex on Thursday. On Friday, the officials removed the furniture, took possession of the projector and boxes containing film rolls stocked inside the complex.

Though the workers of the theatre complex pleaded with them to provide time so that they could get in touch with the owners to take steps to avoid the attachment, the officials insisted that the tax be paid immediately. The owners of the complex did not turn up until late on Friday, the Corporation official said.
