ASI trapped

Staff Reporter

VISAKHAPATNAM: Assistant SI at the Fifth Town police station was trapped by Anti Corruption Bureau sleuths on the charge of demanding and receiving a bribe on Friday. The accused ASI Ram Gopal allegedly demanded Rs.500 from a complainant, who had lost documents pertaining to his house for issuing a ‘non-traceable’ certificate.

ACB DSP B. Atchuta Rao and Inspectors Rajendra Babu and D. Ravi Babu conducted the raid. Investigation is on.

Three missing

A 21-year-old woman went missing from her house some five days ago, according to a complaint lodged with the police on Friday.

M. Anuradha, who studied up to 10th class, was employed at a textile showroom, but quit the job two months ago. On February 18, when her parents were away, she left home taking Rs.15,000 from the almyrah, a gold chain and some clothes. Her parents made enquiries at the shop, the homes of their relatives and acquaintances and finally lodged a complaint. According to her father M. Srinivasa Reddy, Anuradha developed intimacy with Dhananjaya Rao when she was working at the cloth showroom. He suspected that she could have eloped with him. The Two Town police are investigating.

In another case, a housewife went missing along with her younger son from Azamabad near Gajuwaka. S. Hyma was allegedly having extra marital relations with her neighbour B. Sudhakar. On February 6, Hyma left home with her younger son after informing her elder son that she was going out somewhere.

Her husband Ramesh searched for his wife and child at his in-laws house and the homes of their acquaintances but could not trace her. He lodged a complaint with the Gajuwaka police on Friday. Sudhakar, who is also a married man, was also missing from his house.

Youth ends life

A youth committed suicide by hanging himself at his house under the Two Town police station limits on Friday, SI R. Govinda Rao said.

Rambabu, 24, a native of Mochherla village of Gajapathinagaram mandal in Vizianagaram district, was employed at a private diagnostic lab in the city and was staying at a rented house. The reason for his extreme step was not known.
