CHENNAI: The newly-crowned World carrom champion I. Ilavazhagi was given a warm reception at the Chennai Airport here on Friday by the Chennai District Carrom Association (CDCA). The 24-year-old from Chennai was given a bouquet by CDCA officials led by Mr. Bangaru Babu, President, CDCA.
Speaking on the occasion, Ilavazhagi said, “I feel very happy because the reception we got for this was fantastic. It was much better than what we received when I won the Asia Cup, the SAARC Cup and the World Cup. My ambition is to consistently perform well and win the Nationals many more times.”
Ilavazhagi’s father Irudhayaraj and younger sister R. Seventhi were also present.
After the felicitation function, a small get-together was organised at the Nehru Stadium where Christodas Gandhi, Secretary in the Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department and other office-bearers of CDCA greeted Ilavazhagi. — Principal Correspondent
