‘Improve awareness levels of rural people’

NAMAKKAL: Madras High Court Justice M. Jaichandran called upon the members of the Legal Services and AIDS Awareness Core Group to reach out to every village in the district and raise the level of awareness among rural people about HIV/AIDS.
Inaugurating the group formed through the Namakkal District Legal Services Authority here on Friday, the Judge said the disease was earlier found prevalent among heavy vehicle drivers and women.
Now, students were also found infected with HIV. Expressing shock over this, the Judge stressed that the awareness level should be increased among all sections of society.
Pointing out that a majority of the people affected by HIV/AIDS were from poor economic background, the Judge said importance should be given for the development of socio-economic conditions of people living with HIV/AIDS. Earlier, he flagged of a vehicle to create awareness on HIV/AIDS.
Collector G. Sundaramurthi said that the district administration had taken to provide self-employment opportunities to people living with HIV/AIDS.
