‘No deviation from 7-hour power supply’

Installation of capacitors to pumpsets is almost complete, says EPDCL chief

VIZIANAGARAM: Chairman and Managing Director of Eastern Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh Limited Luv Agarwal has made it clear that there cannot be any deviation from the present seven-hour power supply to agriculture pump sets and appealed to consumer organisations and rythu sanghams to cooperate with the company for better service.

Replying to a demand from farmers of East Godavari district for 12-hour supply at the public hearing on objections on ARR (Annual Revenue Requirement) and Tariff proposals for 2008-09 before Radhakishan, Member (Technical) and Surinder Pal, Member (Finance) of the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission at Zilla Parishad conference hall here on Saturday, Mr. Agarwal said that in order to maintain the grid support the present system would continue. He said that installation of capacitors to 99.7 per cent of the 1.39 lakh pump sets was completed. He said that fixed capacitors to transformers in towns and mandal headquarter villages would be installed after assessing the load factor. For the purpose of energy audit in towns, posters to educate consumers were being released.

The CMD said that any time payment machine was installed as a pilot project in the corporate office at Visakhapatnam and added that 10 more machines would be set up in the five districts under EPDCL. In addition to the facility online payments would be entertained after an MoU was reached with bankers, he added.

Compensation

When V.S. Krishna of State Human Rights Forum sought enhancement of compensation to victims of power accidents, Mr. Agarwal said that the government had already increased it from Rs.20,000 to Rs.1 lakh for adults and from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 50,000 for minors.
