Discom proposes no tariff hike
Correspondent
VIZIANAGARAM: The Eastern Power Distribution Company of A.P. Limited has not proposed tariff hike for 2008-09. At the same time, it has proposed to supply free power to small nurseries and small farmers in rural areas and also decided to continue the same tariff to newly-formed municipalities.
It presented its annual budget requirement and retail tariff proposal before Radhakishan, Member (Technical) and Surinder Pal, Member (Finance) of A.P. Electricity Regulatory Commission at the Zilla Parishad Conference Hall here on Saturday.
As the demand is likely to be more than the allocated supply in 2008-09, there might be a need for buying power from other States.
According to preliminary estimates, the expenditure for distribution and retail supply would be Rs. 3,160 crores and the revenue would be Rs.2764 crores thus projecting a deficit of Rs.396 crores for 2008-09. No proposal in absence of a decision to hike power tariff was made to plug the deficit.
However, in the staff review report, the budget required has been put at Rs. 2,541 crores and the revenue earnings Rs. 2634 crores thus projecting a surplus of Rs. 93 crores in 2008-09.
