SNDP may forge alliance with PDP

Aim is to fight for social justice: Vellappally

PDP leader Maudany visits Vellappally at his residence

He offered quality suggestions, says SNDP leader

ALAPPUZHA: Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan has hinted that the Yogam could soon join hands with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led by Abdul Nasir Maudany.

Addressing a press conference at Cherthala near here on Saturday, Mr. Natesan said Mr. Maudany had called in on him at his residence at Kanichukulangara earlier this week to discuss the possibilities of a tie-up between the two organisations to jointly fight for social justice to the downtrodden sections of the society.

“Mr. Maudany came up with several interesting and quality suggestions during our meeting.

“hough I am personally inclined to have an alliance with Mr. Maudany, the issue will be discussed in all levels of the Yogam before a decision is taken.

“This is because several people have a negative impression of Mr. Maudany. But what I have understood is that he has changed a lot and now has plenty of ideas aimed at social justice,” he said.

There were several sections of the society, particularly Muslims and Ezhavas in Malappuram and other regions of the State, who were still deprived of their rights to education, good living conditions and social equality, he said, adding that the aim of the alliance would be to fight together for these, Mr. Natesan said.

On ties with NSS

Reacting to queries about a similar alliance of the SNDP with the Nair Service Society (NSS), albeit to build unity among Hindu communities, Mr. Natesan said the alliance had withered away because of the attitude of the NSS leadership, which he alleged had tried to dictate terms to the SNDP.

Criticising the Church for joining hands with the NSS to agitate against the State government, Mr. Natesan said the leadership of the NSS no longer commanded support from the Nair community. The government, which paid salaries to teachers in aided schools, had every right to have a say in their recruitment as well, he added.

The SNDP, which had openly supported the Left Democratic Front in the previous elections, was however not satisfied with the government’s performance so far. Allies like the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) were “creating unnecessary issues,” he said.
