VISAKHAPATNAM: Coast Guard Ship Huravee of Maldives National Defence Force, which has been with the Naval Dockyard here for the last three months for a maintenance refit, has completed the process on schedule. The occasion was marked by a ceremony held at the dockyard here recently wherein Rear Admiral H.S. Malhi, Admiral Superintendent, Naval Dockyard, formally handed over the ship to Ismail Shareef, Commanding Officer, CGS Huravee. The effort of the dockyard towards timely completion of the task was appreciated by Director General, Coast Guard of the Maldives National Defence Force, Zakariyya Mansoor, who was present on the occasion. Medical campAs part of the Community Development Programme, undertaken by INS Eksila, a medical camp for free health check-up of nearly 175 schoolchildren from the neighbouring villages of Mulgada and Edhuvanipalaem was held recently. Command Medical Officer of Eastern Naval Command, Surgeon Commodore S.R. Gedela, who inaugurated the camp, stressed the importance of early detection of chronic and communicable diseases. Apart from medical camps, the welfare measures initiated in the past under the aegis of the Eastern Naval Command include repairs and refurbishment of community halls, anti-malarial fogging/ spraying and liaison with local civil authorities for better sanitation, supply of water and electricity to the neighbouring villages. Yachting championshipINS Circars conducted Eastern Naval Command Yachting Championship 2007-08 at Naval Sailing Club. The six standard Groups of the command contested the event held in the Triangle Loop Finish Format across six categories in which three each in officers and in sailors based on age and rank respectively participated. A total of 72 personnel forming 36 teams participated in the championship spread over four days from Monday. The championship was won by the Local Ashore Team.
