East Bengal holds Sporting Clube

KOLKATA: East Bengal held Sporting Clube de Goa 1-1 to finish sixth in the I-League football standings.

In the concluding round match at Barasat near here on Saturday, the visitor went into the lead through Joseph Perreira in the 22nd minute before East Bengal neutralised through Syed Rahim Nabi in the 56th minute.

The draw kept the two sides tied on 19 points, but East Bengal nudged Sporting Clube (which finished seventh) out on better goal difference.

Scoring 17 goals and conceding 23, East Bengal netted a goal difference of -6 compared to -10 of Sporting Clube, which scored 14 and conceded 24.
