Woman held in drug racket

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Five persons, including a woman, have been arrested by the South-West Delhi police for allegedly running an international drug racket in smuggling of psychotropic substances to Afghanistan.

Acting on a tip-off, the special staff of the district police laid a trap near Rajokri this past Tuesday, intercepted a Toyota Qualis and arrested Rabia Begum, her husband Kalim Akhtar and Amarjeet Singh, an Afghan national. The vehicle was searched and 50 litres of a psychotropic substance used to prepare heroin were allegedly seized.

A case was registered against the trio under the NDPS Act at the Vasant Kunj station. During interrogation, Rabia Begum purportedly told the police that she supplied the drug to Amarjeet Singh who in turn smuggled it to Afghanistan through one Satpal. Rabia told the police that she had procured the drug from one Sampat through Raju who runs a CD shop near Fathepuri Masjid.

Based on the disclosure, Satpal and Raju were arrested and interrogated at length. The two confessed to their involvement in drug smuggling. The passport of Satpal revealed that he had visited Afghanistan eight times during the past six months.
