Protest against superstores in Delhi
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: Buoyed by the success of similar protests in Orissa and Uttar Pradesh, a large number of small shopkeepers and hawkers staged a “Halla Bol” protest outside Reliance Fresh, Subhiksha and More stores at Shakarpur in East Delhi on Saturday seeking closure of all such superstores in the Capital.
Wal-Mart official’s visit
Protesting on the eve of the visit of a senior Wal-Mart official, the demonstrators, who came together under the banner of Bharatiya Udyog Vyapar Mandal, trooped into the streets at about 10-30 a.m.. Getting a whiff of the protest, the superstores had already downed their shutters. But that did not deter the protesters from holding a vociferous protest outside the premises.
The protesters also burnt a ten-headed effigy symbolising ten corporation which are engaged in retail business.
