‘Yakshagana gombeyata’ in Hubli

HUBLI: A 14-member team led by puppetry artiste Bhaskar Kamat will present “Yakshagana gombeyata” at Maharashtra Mandal here on March 3 at 6 p.m.

The programme is being organised by Dharma Samskruti Pratishthana of Hubli. The team will present “Chintamani Mattu Lanka Dahana”, mythological episode.

Mr. Kamat will demonstrate puppetry and interact with the audience, K. Ganapati Bhat, director of the foundation, said in a press release issued here on Sunday.

Bhaskar Kamat belongs to the sixth generation of the puppetry artistes. After receiving training from his father Devanna Kamath, Mr. Bhaskar Kamat started giving public performances when he was 18. He has performed across the country and abroad, including France, Belgium, Australia, Germany and Holland.

The masks, puppets and the stage are designed by Mr. Bhaskar Kamat. The episodes for the show are from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. He has won several awards and has been honoured twice by the President.
