Forum demands more funds in Railway Budget

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike has urged the Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad to earmark more funds for the State in the Railway Budget 2008-09 and implement the pending railway projects on a priority.
Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, T.A. Narayana Gowda, president of the vedike, urged more funds for new trains between Bangalore-Hubli express, Bangalore - Chamarajanagar and Gulbarga-Bangalore; for a new railway line between Bangalore and Bangalkot; conversion of Dharwad-Belgaum route to a two-lane system; and gauge conversion on Gadag-Bagalkot line. The vedike has also urged further funds to set up railway divisional offices in Gulbarga and Mangalore, extending train facilities to Kushalnagar in Kodagu, to start four new trains between Bangalore and Mangalore and for coversion of the Ramanagar-Mysore, Arasikere and Birur lines into double track.
Mr. Gowda also insisted on the amending of the rules for recruiting C and D Group employees in Railways to help recruit local people.
