dated February 25, 1958: Tamil as State language

Mr. C. Subramaniam, Finance Minister, told pressmen in Coimbatore on February 23, that the extension of the use of regional language for purposes of administration in all the offices would be completed by the end of the Second Plan period. To another question when Tamil would become the medium of instruction in the University, Mr. Subramaniam said that by 1960 all subjects under humanities would be taught in Tamil and that 1965 was the target date for switching over to Tamil in regard to teaching science subjects in colleges.
