Helping them showcase their talent
Staff Reporter
Bangalore: “I have not won anything yet. But I am not going to sit and sulk. I will participate in a few more events. Wish me luck. I want to win in at least one event,” said Shashi Kala, a visually impaired first PU student of Girijamba College.
Shashi Kala and many other disabled students were participating in the State-level sports meet, “Aarambh ’08”, organised by Rotaract Club of Jayanagar and Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled at the Kanteerava Outdoor Stadium here on Sunday.
Rashmi C., a seventh standard student, who suffers from partial visual impairment, said that she participated in the 100-metre running race competition.
“I participated, but I did not win. It felt nice to participate in the event with other children. Many such events should be organised,” she said.
Nagaveni V., a final year B.A. student from NMKRV College, who is also partially visual impaired, won the first place in two events, shot put and long jump.
Students from Chitradurga, Chickaballapur, Kolar, Mysore, Bangalore Rural and Bangalore Urban districts participated.
