1.2 lakh people killed in road accidents in 2007

BANGALORE: The national consultation workshop on preventing drinking and driving has recommended to the Centre get tough on drinking and driving while underlining the need for a uniform law in the country.

The workshop was organised by Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) in association with the World Health Organisation, the World Bank and Karnataka Police Department here on Friday.

GRSP Chief Executive David Silcock told presspersons here on Saturday that 1.2 lakh people were killed in road crashes in India in 2007 and the fatalities were increasing by 5 per cent a year.
