BJP urges Governor to put Sakrama on hold

Special Correspondent

‘Let the scheme be discussed in legislature’

BANGALORE: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday termed the Sakrama scheme for regularisation of unauthorised residential sites by collecting penalty as “anti-people” and urged Governor Rameshwar Thakur to put the scheme on hold till the formation of an elected government in the State.

Participating in a programme organised here to induct Congress leader E. Ashwathnarayana and his followers into the BJP fold, party State unit president D.V. Sadananda Gowda alleged that the hurried manner in which the Governor had effected some changes in the Sakrama scheme had created confusion among people.

He said that any decision on the scheme should be taken after a thorough discussion in the legislature.

BJP leader and former minister R. Ashok alleged that the Governor was acting at the behest of the Congress regarding the Sakrama scheme. He maintained that the Governor had insulted democracy by taking major decisions in the absence of a popular government. He alleged that the law and order situation had deteriorated in the State, especially in Bangalore, under the President’s Rule.

Expressing shock over some suspected terrorists hiding themselves in Karnataka, Mr. Ashok and Mr. Gowda alleged that the Congress leaders were indirectly trying to protect the arrested persons.

Mr. Gowda lashed out at Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Siddaramaiah and N. Dharam Singh for reportedly demanding release of suspected terrorists. He also ridiculed Janata Dal (Secular) president H.D. Deve Gowda for maintaining that the suspected terrorists were poor people.
