CM loyalists hit out at Venkataswamy

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Several MLCs close to Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday charged the Congress Working Committee member G. Venkataswamy with trying to deride the Government by making ‘baseless’ allegations that development had taken a backseat.

The MLCs decided to meet Dr. Reddy in a day or two and present a memorandum seeking more funds for the ongoing projects in Telangana. Taking exception to the veteran’s outbursts, the MLCs, led by Bhatti Vikramarka and other Congress leaders, met here. APCC Seva Dal president K. Janardhan Reddy, former SETWIN chairman M.A. Khan, and AICC member Abid Rasool attended.

Party sources said MLCs were bitter that Mr. Venkataswamy was trying to drag Dr. Reddy’s name into a controversy and accusing him of stalling Telangana.

They dared the MP to seek more funds to the region, instead of ‘stalling development’ by taking potshots at the leadership. Mr. Venkataswamy was hurling accusations at the Chief Minister with an ‘ulterior’ motive, they opined.

Mr. Vikramarka said the MLCs decided to meet Dr. Reddy for seeking more funds to Telangana projects. “We will submit a memorandum seeking more funds to educational institutions and expediting the recruitment to fill vacant posts by special recruitment”.

Meanwhile, former APSRTC chairman Gone Prakash Rao at a press conference dared Mr. Venkataswamy to hold a public meeting in his parliamentary constituency of Peddapalli to prove the ‘Telangana sentiment’.
