JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government has waived electricity bills of four months of small and marginal farmers whose crops were damaged during the recent cold wave and frost across the State. The bills to be waived are those for power consumption between December 2007 and March 2008. Jaipur Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Chairman and Managing Director R.G. Gupta said here on Sunday that the decision for waiver would be applicable to the farmers whose crops had been damaged to the extent of 50 per cent or more. State Disaster Management and Relief Department had recently decided to waive the electricity bills on the instructions of Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, who had called for reports from districts to announce a relief package for farmers. Orders for waiving electricity bills of four months were issued by the public sector Jaipur, Ajmer and Jodhpur power discoms over the week-end. Mr. Gupta said the waiver package would also be available to the individuals engaged in farming in partnership at the land equivalent in measurement to that of small farmers.
