BANGALORE: The Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT) has achieved 114 per cent clearance of cases in two years, which is one of the highest in the country, according to the Chairman of KAT A.V. Srinivasa Reddy. He also outlined some of the trying conditions under which the KAT was functioning, including the absence of a second bench and the vacancies in the existing bench. Cases clearedAddressing presspersons here on Saturday Justice Reddy stated that the KAT had cleared 30,895 applications as against 27,115 applications filed after he assumed charge in 2005. Since the advent of the KAT in 1986, 1,69,528 applications have been filed of which 1,48,296 have been disposed. At present, there are 21,232 cases pending. The percentage of total achievement was 87.47 per cent. ComparisonComparing the statistics with neighbouring States Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, Mr. Reddy stated that in Andhra Pradesh there were five benches comprising 10 members and the pending cases were 18,800 and the average filing a year was between 7,000 to 8,000 applications. In Maharashtra, there are nine benches comprising 18 members and the pending cases were 4,730. Considering the comparative statistics KAT’s achievement was laudable he added. .
