LOOK AND LEARN: M.S. Dhoni said the top order needs to contribute and play innings of value, like Gautam Gambhir (above) has.

Sydney: Australian captain Ricky Ponting said the on-field incidents on the field here on Sunday should not be blown out of proportions.

He said: “There was a minor altercation out there today and I don’t think we should make too much of it.”

On his regaining form, Ponting said: “It has been a long time coming. It was good to spend some time out there. This was probably the best wicket we have had so far. The scores have indicated this.”

He admitted that the Aussie bowlers were under pressure. “It is the first time in a while that the bowlers have been under that sort of pressure. We had to deliver a lot of yorkers and the bowlers came up a bit short there tonight. We have some work to do.”

On India captain M.S. Dhoni being asked to change his ’keeping gloves during the innings, Ponting said: “I am aware of it. I noticed that he changed his gloves out on the field. He has actually done it quite a lot through the summer, changed his gloves at different times when he comes up to the stumps or goes back.”

‘Used ’em all along’

Dhoni said he had been wearing the gloves all through the summer here, including the Test series. “The match-referee wanted to have them removed. I did not know what all the fuss was about. I did not want to create a controversy.”

Dhoni said he was hoping for some luck with the toss against the Lankans at Hobart. “We will want to win there.” Dhoni said the top-order needed to contribute. “Gambhir and Uthappa showed a lot of character and the others need to look at them. We don’t need fifties or hundreds but innings that make a difference,” he said.
