BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) will organise a rally in the city on March 14 to highlight its demands such as land for the landless, home for the homeless, food security for the poor and work for the labourers. At a press conference here on Sunday, secretary of the CPI (M) Orissa State Committee Janardan Pati criticised the Biju Janata Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance government for its failure in providing help to the poor and landless during its eight years rule. Mr. Pati said land totalling to over 72 lakh acres were available in the State that could be distributed among the landless, he added. He also blamed the Government for its failure to fill up the vacant posts in various government departments despite its claim that it had surplus of funds. Around 1.32 lakh posts were lying vacant in the Education Department alone, he said. Mr. Pati also emphasised the need for proper implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme and extension of the same to urban areas. About 60 per cent of funds earmarked for the scheme were being siphoned off at various levels, he alleged. The CPI (M) leader also criticised the Centre for its anti-people policies that had resulted in increase in the process of various essential commodities.
