HYDERABAD: Even as mobile telephony and other sectors continue to make rapid strides every passing day, a section of eminent people feel the developments have an adverse impact on human relations.

Former judge of Supreme Court M. Jagannadha Rao expressed concern over the way the developments in technology and progress on economic front are increasing the ‘distance’ between the people.

Justice Rao is surprised at the way spouses contact each other through SMS these days. And, the hectic schedules are forcing couples to meet only at airports to fly for different destinations, he said.

Speaking at a seminar organised by the Telecom Disputes Settlement & Appellate Tribunal here on Sunday, he candidly admitted that he did feel inconvenient in not only using mobile phone but computer and internet.

Justice Rao was not alone to face this problem as Supreme Court Judge B. Sudershan Reddy and High Court Chief Justice A.R. Dave said they too felt equally inconvenient in using the mobile.

“The world has no doubt become small, but the distance between the hearts is increasing. Graham Bell might not have thought about the disputes his invention would lead to,” Justice Dave observed.

The judges were concerned that lawyers and judges were not well versed with the emerging technologies and they stressed the need for raising their awareness.
