YSR objects to politicising backwardness of State

Urges parties to join hands with the Government to take a pledge to ensure all round development

Panel to be formed to evolve a time-bound action plan for development of backward regions


HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has questioned the political parties as to why they are politicising backwardness of the State and instead urged them to join hands with the Government to take a pledge to ensure all round development.

Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy in an open letter to the political parties on Sunday said that there was need to evolve unanimity for the proposed autonomous body to study the backwardness various regions of the State.

Ready for debate

Throwing a challenge to the Opposition parties, Dr. Reddy said he was prepared for a debate to identify, those responsible for backwardness, sparking regional differences, plight of the farming community and forcing the ryots to end their lives.

He said the Government is in the process of coming up with a concept note on the proposed independent commission. The commission would have experts in the fields of finance, economics, law and social sciences. The panel would evolve a time-bound action plan for development of the backward regions.

A press release from the Chief Minister’s Office here said that elected representatives have urged him to see that there is elaborate debate on the proposed body before a final decision is taken. Dr. Reddy noted that he had explained to these legislators that there several backward areas abutting the developed areas.

He said that even in developed districts like West Godavari, there are backward areas so is the case with Vizianagaram and Srikakulam, which are close to highly-developed Visakhapatnam.

Milestone

Stating that the proposed commission would be a milestone in the history of the State, Dr. Reddy said it is left to the Opposition parties to decide whether they would be part of the on going development in the State.

He said if the Opposition parties try to stall irrigation projects, they will have no future. He stated that the Government had succeeded in convincing the banks to provide Rs. 1,300 crore loans for the Rajiv Swagruha.
