Writes to Railway Minister Lalu Prasad; wants merger of Vizag division with SCR

HYDERABAD: Former Minister of State for Railways Bandaru Dattatreya has appealed to Railway Minister Lalu Prasad to ‘be magnanimous’ at least this time and allocate Rs. 2,000 crore exclusively to Andhra Pradesh in the upcoming Railway Budget and merge Visakhapatnam division in South Central Railway (SCR). In a letter addressed to Mr. Yadav on Saturday, Mr. Dattatreya wanted a coach factory to be set up in Kazipet which connected North and South, and coach rehabilitation workshop at Nandalur in Guntakal division.

He urged the Minister to allot Rs. 100 crore each for Nandyal-Yerraguntla and Peddapalli-Karimnagar-Nizamabad railway lines.

He said the Obulavaripalle-Venkatachalam railway line connecting Krishnapatnam port must be taken up on a war-footing.

Electrification

Priority should be given to the electrification of lines towards Wadi, Bangalore, and Aurangabad from Secunderabad and Bibinagar-Nadikude.

Mr. Dattatreya sought that Tirupati be connected from all major cities, besides modernising the Tirupati railway station.

He also lamented the conversion many trains into super-fast trains and issuance of Tatkal tickets a week in advance. He sought Rs. 50 crore for the modernisation of Secunderabad railway station.

MMTS phase-II

Mr. Dattatreya also highlighted the need for sanctioning Rs. 150 crore for MMTS phase-II in Greater Hyderabad; running circular trains between Vijayawada-Tenali, Guntur-Vijayawada and Tirupati-Nellore-Chennai, apart from introduction of some super-fast trains passing through the State.
