Railways are spending huge amounts to construct welcome arches around the railway station. The amount of money being spent could have been utilised for better facilities like more drinking water outlets, roofs over the roofless platforms and so on. The Railway Minister assures us to make Vijayawada Railway Station a world class station. Does such a world class station need welcome arches? Let the authorities give priority to providing more drinking water outlets on platforms and roofs. C. Ram Mohun H.B. Colony, Vijayawada Customers not informed Raja Gas Agency shifted some of its customers to other agencies totally to suit their convenience and not that of the customers. Without even intimating the customers, they have resorted to this. No one opposed it. But it is not proper on the part of the agency to send a postcard informing customers about the change of agency. When a customer tried to book a cylinder, he was intimated that his connection had been shifted to some other agency. People should understand that service is important. Systems should be implemented to avoid any inconvenience to customers. L.V.S. Kameswara Rao Poranki, Vijayawada Develop Gannavaram airportThe history of Gannavaram airport goes back to the times of Second World War. It was developed in 1,000 acres areas. Night landing facility was also developed. Subsequently, the airport was limping and was even closed for short period. Floods in Budameru eroded some land. People started irrigating land belonging to the airport. So, the land shrank to 500 acres. The airport is half an hour flight from Hyderabad. Infrastructure development is the need of the hour. There is a rich legacy for Gannavaram airport and it should be developed. Katragadda Narasayya Moghalrajapuram, Vijayawada Speed Post goes slowThe Speed Post service has lost its very meaning because of delays in booking to delivery. The postal staff put a bar coded sticker on the consignment to track its movement but it never works as the postal authorities fail to update the information at any stage. Even within the State, it takes two to five days to deliver the consignment, whereas street corner courier services are able to deliver the same the next day with their limited resources. The counter service at post offices also needs to be improved a lot. Postal savings can be improved by issuing ATM cards and cheque books by entering into a tie-up with nationalised banks. Kowta Sriprakasa Labbipeta, Vijayawada Bumpy rideA good number of main roads have been dug up over the last few months by the VMC authorities to lay underground drainage pipes. Unfortunately, the corporation authorities have not shown the same enthusiasm and speed to lay the roads after the UGD work is over. A classic example is the road in front of Siddhartha Public School and also the one from Executive Club to Amma Kalyanamandapam. The bumpy ride in these routes is back-breaking, literally. The VMC authorities should take up the laying of roads without any more delay. S.T.K. Parthasarathi Pinnamaneni Polyclinic Road, Vijayawada
