HYDERABAD: M.V. Mysoora Reddy, Telugu Desam MP, on Sunday asked the Government’s explanation on the circumstances leading to lease of 1,700 acres to Gayatri Cements for extracting limestone and bauxite in Gadivemula mandal of Kurnool. At a press conference, he produced documents pertaining to a 20-year lease granted to the company. The MP pointed out that another company, JSW Cements, was rejected permission. There were irregularities galore in Gayatri Cements being given the permission. Dr. Reddy alleged that ‘Subba Reddy’ who got the lease, in the name of Gayatri Cements, was working in tandem with JSW Cements. This was only one instance of the Congress leaders pressuring officials to process papers in their favour. “The government should either withdraw the sanctioned lease or let a responsible person explain,” he stated. Naidu’s securityAt a separate press conference, TD Legislature Party’s deputy floor leader E. Dayakar Rao expressed concern over the government’s attitude in providing security cover to Leader of Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu, according to a threat perception. He wanted that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy either reply in the House within two-three days or enhance security to Mr. Naidu, as before. If the demands were not met the party would take the issue to Governor N.D. Tiwari first and then to President Pratibha Patil. Mr. Rao said from a 200-strong security, when he was Chief Minister, Mr. Naidu now had only 152 personnel.
