HCU research scholar found dead

Staff Reporter

P. Senthil Kumar was pursuing Ph.D in physics

HYDERABAD: A Ph.D student was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his hostel room in the Hyderabad Central University (HCU) at Gachibowli on Sunday.

P. Senthil Kumar, 28, a native of Salem in Tamil Nadu, was pursuing Ph.D (Physics) since July last. He shifted to room number 205 in research scholars’ men’s hostel four days ago following an accommodation problem. His death was discovered when his friends got suspicious as Kumar was not seen at the dinner table on Saturday night and also during breakfast on Sunday morning.

No marks

They went to his room and repeatedly knocked on the main door but on not getting any response, they peeped through a ventilator only to find him lying on the floor with blood oozing from his nose. The students broke open the door and shifted him to the university medical centre where doctors declared him brought dead.

“We can ascertain the reasons behind Senthil Kumar’s death only after getting the post-mortem report”, said Chandanagar Inspector T. Amarkanth Reddy. He said no visible injury marks were found on the body.

Senthil Kumar was staying alone in the room. “He was a jovial and active person. We never found any problem with him. He was preparing earnestly to clear a backlog subject and even spoke to me after shifting to the new room”, said V. Laxman, a Ph.D (Political Science) student, who used to share a room in ‘C’ hostel.

The Hostel Chief Warden, B. Anantha Krishnan, said “We suspect that Senthil Kumar could have died due to brain haemorrhage or a cardiac problem.” The student had completed his M.Phil from Pondicherry University.
