Llodra wins title

ROTTERDAM: France’s Michael Llodra beat Swede Robin Soderling 6-7(3), 6-3, 7-6(4) in the final of the ABN Amro Championship on Sunday for his second title of the year.

The 27-year-old Llodra dropped his first set of the week but he fought back to break Soderling twice in the second. Both players dominated on their service in the final set, but Llodra’s serve and volley game earned him victory in the tiebreak and his second crown of 2008 after winning in Adelaide in January.

Sharapova triumphs

In an all-Russian final at the Qatar Open on Sunday, Maria Sharapova claimed her second title of the year and the 18th of her career when she defeated unseeded Vera Zvonareva 6-1, 2-6, 6-0.

At San Jose, the top-seeded Andy Roddick beat Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 7-6(2), 6-1 to set up a final with Czech Radek Stepanek.

At Doha (WTA Qatar Open): Final: Maria Sharapova bt Vera Zvonareva 6-1, 2-6, 6-0.

At Buenos Aires (ATP Copa Telmex): Semifinals: Jose Acasuso bt Filippo Volandri 4-6, 6-4, 6-4; David Nalbandian bt Juan Ignacio Chela 6-1, 6-2.
