Laxman wins
Chennai: International Master Rajaran Laxman of Chennai won the B. Ravi Memorial FIDE rating chess tournament that concluded at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Sunday.
Laxman defeated D.P. Singh, T.S. Ravi and highly rated Syed Anwar Shazuli in the last three rounds to win by a one-point margin.
Laxman won eight FIDE rating events last year, the most by an Indian in one year.
Final top placings: 1. R.R. Laxman 9/10; 2. D.P. Singh (Rly) 8; 3. T.S. Ravi (PSPB) 8; 4. R. Balasubramanian (ICF) 8; 5. B.T. Muralikrisnan (Rly) 8. — Arvind Aaron
