Sir, — The BMTC buses going towards Anjananagar stop near Herohalli cross on Magadi main road. Similarly, buses to Andhrahalli and Thigalarapalya should also stop at this point before turning towards Herohalli cross. This will ensure that the passengers will not cross over from one side to the other to take the buses. This would help in avoiding accidents, especially during peak hours. K.R. Raghavendra Rao Bangalore Assess their useSir, — The completion of the underpass near Cauvery cinema in Bangalore is a cause for celebration. It is an engineering feat. But the authorities should not rush to build more such underpasses. Before doing so, it should be ascertained if the underpass has helped the cause of heavy traffic. It should be assessed if the stormwater drainage system at the low level is adequate the during rainy season. C.B. Dyuthikar Bangalore Focus on AyurvedaSir, — It is well-known that Ayurvedic treatment is becoming popular in villages as well as in urban areas, as it is inexpensive. Lack of qualified allopathic professionals in rural areas warrants greater emphasis on developing Ayurveda as an full-fledged alternative medical system. The system is also quite helpful in treating some chronic ailments. Towards empowering the discipline, more Ayurvedic colleges should be set up in the country. Institutions offering treatment should be service oriented. P. Basavaiah Chitradurga Traffic overloadSir, — Lorries carrying iron ore queue up on the Ankola-Yellapur highway, hindering smooth flow of traffic. Overspeeding by such vehicles causes inconvenience to private and tourist vehicles. This stretch is also accident prone, and people are afraid of frequent travel as lorry drivers do not drive responsibly. The Government should instruct the officials to clear the road and act against erring drivers. K.R. Narendra Ankola Clogged drainsSir, — The drain between the KSRTC Administrative Complex and the newly-constructed bus stand near Kengal Hanumanthaiya Road has not been cleaned for several years now. Despite several requests made by the public, the authorities have not even visited the place which is full of garbage. The drain is clogged with waste and carcasses of rodents. This poses health hazards to the residents who fear outbreak of diseases. Will the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials take action immediately? N. Raju, Bangalore Extend pensionSir, — Public sector industrial workers, who joined service before 1970, were not entitled to any benefits. Also, they were not paid much. As a result, they could not save anything for them or their children. After serving for more than 35 years, they got paltry sums as PF and gratuity benefits. I request the Union Government to extend pensionary benefits to all workers those who joined service prior to the introduction of the pension scheme.
