A presentation focussed on girl child’s rights and global warming The programme was presented by Yuvak Biradari of Mumbai NEW DELHI: A staunch supporter of women’s and girl child’s rights, President Pratibha Patil has thrown open the gates of Rashtrapati Bhavan for hosting social functions that address the issue of female infanticide. This past Sunday, the President sat through a ballet programme at the Rashtrapati Bhavan auditorium titled “Smruti Sankalp Yatra”, which included a cultural and musical presentation based on the social evil of female infanticide and global warming. Presenting partyThe programme was presented by Yuvak Biradari (Bharat) of Mumbai and supported by Sangeet Natak Akademi. Yuvak Biradri, formed in 1974 with the aim of serving as an engine for social development and youth welfare, concentrates on the social, educational and cultural advancement of society. A ballet, “Ajanmika”, which highlighted the evil of female infanticide, was staged on the occasion. It combined folk and classical dance forms to convey the message of saving the girl child. The show also shed light on the prevalent problem of global warming and also included a cultural presentation depicting India’s freedom struggle from 1857 to 1947 through songs and dances in various Indian languages. ParticipationAbout 200 school children and 40 professional theatre artistes performed in the show. Among the schools which took part in the special programme are Nalanda Nrutya Kala Mahavidyalaya, Mumbai; Fulma Dance Academy, Vadodara; R.D. Public School, New Delhi; Prelude School, Agra; and Sumermal Jain School, New Delhi.
