Breathtaking: The Sirle Falls near Yellapur in Uttara Kannada district BANGALORE: Braving slippery terrain and fighting leaches, Keshav Vitla, a photo-journalist, trekked long distances to reach some of the little known, yet magnificent waterfalls and water bodies in the Western Ghats during the last monsoon. In a journey spanning seven months between July 2007 and January 2008, Mr. Vitla has covered 35 waterfalls, over 15 beaches and a few lakes freezing breathtaking views of these water bodies. The splendid Sille falls, Sunajog and Benne falls in Sirsi, the Barkana falls and Onake falls in Agumbe are some of the least known falls that have been captured by Mr. Vitla along with the famed waterfalls including Jog, Gokak and Bharachukki. To showcase his tryst with the monsoon, 101 selected frames of Karnataka’s largely explored water bodies will be on display at “Karnataka Waterscapes,” a photo exhibition. Recalling his journey into the deep forests of Agumbe, Mr. Vitla says: “To reach Onake Abbi falls, we had to trek eight km in the slippery terrain amidst fears of King Cobra attacks. Two persons had to hold me since it was slippery while I clicked the photos.” “It was a solo attempt with some help from local people in respective areas,” he said. The photo exhibition will be inaugurated by cricketer Anil Kumble at Venkatappa Art Gallery on Wednesday and exhibition will be on till March 4.
