1,500 plants, 40 species exhibited in the fest Students present host of cultural programmes PUDUCHERRY: The ‘Farm Fest 2008’ turned out to be a winning ground for Achariya Group of Institutions, as the students bagged a number of prizes for arrangement of flowering plants. According to a press release, the school won 15 first prizes and four second places for arrangement of flowering plants under various categories. They had exhibited 1,500 plants and 40 species in the fest, held at the Botanical Garden. The school also stood second among the institutions in Puducherry. A team of teachers and students, with the guidance of zone heads, took part in the floral arrangement. Annual DayMeanwhile, Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School celebrated its annual day on February 23. Puducherry Legislative Assembly Speaker R. Radhakrishnan distributed prizes to students. Students also presented a host of cultural programmes on the occasion. A Tamil drama, ‘Idhayathi Thirudiyavar’, staged by high school students was the highlight of the school day celebrations. The school also received the first prize from Chief Minister N. Rangasamy for setting up an ornamental garden at the fest. Special functionThe NSS unit of the school organised a special function for the outgoing Standard XII students. R. Hariharan and J. Dinesh of Standard IX won awards in chess and Taekwondo championships respectively. Prizes in contestsTwo students of Alpha Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Orleanpet won prizes in different competitions held recently. A press release issued by the school said Lara Iswarya Rane of Standard IV participated in the ‘Desathaai Kaapoum’ skit organised by Bharathi Palkalai Peravai and won a certificate and trophy. Similarly, N.G. Sneha won the second place in the Logic Illa Magic State-level children chess tournament. She also participated in the State-level open rapid chess tournament and won the first place on merit list.
