PUDUCHERRY: Students of the Pondicherry Engineering College on Monday sought the intervention of Lieutenant Governor Mukut Mithi to ensure that the Puducherry government remitted the tuition fee of candidates selected by the Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) without any delay. A memorandum submitted by 42 students of the PEC recalled that G.O.MS.No.12, issued on February 21, had made it clear that students admitted through CENTAC should be exempted from tuition fees and that the Administrative Department concerned should obtain the details of financial implications and approval of the competent authorities for release of funds. However, the college management had issued a notice on February 22 that pending final decision on the implementation of the G.O. on waiving of the tuition fee for the B.Tech. students admitted for the year 2006-2007 and UG and PG students admitted for 2007-2008 under CENTAC, the last date to pay the tuition fee with fine had been extended up to March 7. The students of the PEC also called on Chief Minister N.Rangasamy at his office and pleaded with him to give necessary direction on remittance of the tuition fees. The students came in a procession to the Assembly complex.
