Policemen’s families seek CBI probe into mob attack

Special Correspondent

PANAJI: A delegation of the family members of the Goa police on Monday called on Director-General of Police B.S. Brar and demanded that the recent case of mob attack on city police station on February 19 be handed over to the CBI for a thorough probe.

After taking out a rally in the city on Monday, members of the families of the Goa police presented a memorandum to the police chief.

The memorandum demanded that the inquiry of the incident, in which over 20 police personnel were injured, must be handed over to the CBI to ensure an independent investigation. The Opposition as well as the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), a coalition partner of the Government, demanded that the Government should hold a judicial inquiry into the incident in which serious allegations about police brutality on the members of the family of MLA Atanasio Monserrate, who is charged by police of inciting the mob, are being made.
