KATHMANDU: The government and the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) failed to ink a deal at the last minute despite reaching an agreement on the six-point demands of the Front on Sunday. At a press conference, Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula said, “We failed to sign an agreed deal at the final minute after the Front out of nowhere demanded amendment in the interim constitution and deferral of the CA [Constituent Assembly] poll by at least a month.” Mr. Sitaula said poll postponement was not acceptable and it would take place on April 10 “at any cost.” NominationsThe mainstream political parties filed nominations for the CA elections on Monday. Three major parties — Nepali Congress, Nepal Communist Party (UML) and Nepal Communist Party (Maoists) — fielded candidates in all the 240 constituencies across the country. Some NC leaders, however, did not submit their nominations citing the ongoing Madhesh movement. However, the UDFM did not field any candidate. Its cadres, instead, tried to obstruct the nomination process in many districts resulting in two deaths.
