For connectivity: CPI(M) State secretariat member Sivaji Patnaik and MLA Lakshman Munda, along with party activists, on hunger strike in front of the Chief Minister’s house in Bhubaneswar on Monday. BHUBANESWAR: Laxman Munda, MLA of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) from Bonai in Sundargarh district, on Monday launched a hunger strike in front of the residence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik demanding repair and completion of the road passing through mineral rich pockets of the district. In the morning, Mr. Munda, who said his repeated demands on the issue were not given due attention, reached the Chief Minister’s residence along with his supporters and launched hunger strike. Mr. Munda was immediately called for a discussion. Although Mr. Patnaik assured him that all the projects would be undertaken under active supervision of a senior IAS officer, the CPI (M) legislator was not impressed. Mr. Munda later shifted the venue of strike to Lower PMG Square in front of the Assembly declaring that he would continue the strike till works on National Highway 215 began. The legislator demanded that National Highway 215, which was used by thousands of trucks and people of tribal dominated Sundargarh and Keonjhar district, should be completed in an expeditious manner. Development of a State highway connecting Koida and Kaleiposhi via Tensa should be immediately taken up in view of rise in traffic on the road. His other demands included speedy execution of Bimalagarh-Talcher railway link, extension of Puri-Rourkela train to Kiribur and conversion of Kiribur passenger train, which was running twice a week, to daily.
